Q: What is Beta glucan?
A: Beta 1, 3 d glucan is the sole active ingredient in beta glucan. It is derived from     the cell walls of baker's yeast (saccharomyces cerevisiae). Beta glucan is known
by immunologists for its amazing immune enhancing properties

Q: What is yeast extract?
A: Yeast extract is a concentrate of soluble materials derived from yeast following     hydrolysis of the cell material, particularly the proteins, carbohydrates and nucleic     acids. It is commercially available as a powder or paste and has been used     extensively in foods, feeds and fermentation media.

Q: How does beta 1, 3 d glucan work?
A: It fully activates macrophages in your body which are one of the primary defenses     of the immune system. Macrophages act like Pac Men in your body. They trap and     consume foreign invaders such as bacteria, viruses and parasites.Taking beta 1,3 d     glucan every day is like having a mechanic tweak your classic     model T     automobile for peak performance every morning. Beta glucan will help to give you     the maximum appropriate immune response. It, also, carefully regulates this     response, avoiding (and helping your body to control) any auto-immune challenges     you may have.

Q:Who should take beta 1, 3 d glucan?
A: People with impaired immunity. People who are susceptible to allergies, autoimmune     disease, infectious disease, slow and incomplete healing and cancer. People     wishing to  slow the aging process. People undergoing radiation or chemotherapy.     People over 40    whose immune systems begin to slow through the aging process     and geriatric patients.

Q:Are glucan from barley, oats, or other grains as effective as the beta glucan derived from bakers yeast?
A:They have been shown to be ineffective as an immune modulator. Only beta 1,3 d     glucan from the cell wall of baker's yeast has been shown to have a potent effect     on the immune system

Q:Is beta 1, 3 d glucan safe?
A:  Baker's yeast extracts have been given a G.R.A.S. Rating (Generally Regarded As      Safe) Rating by the FDA.

Q:Will beta 1, 3 d glucan cause or increase an autoimmune condition?
A:  Beta 1, 3 d glucan does not pose a danger for people with autoimmune problems.      Considerable peer reviewed data indicates that it actually helps people's immune      systems to lessen the effects of autoimmune disorders such as diabetes, arthritis,      psoriasis, etc.

Q: How does Beta Glucan work?
A:  Beta Glucan enhances the immune system as it comes in contact with      macrophages, a type of innate immune cell that is the body's first line of defense.

Q: Is Beta Glucan safe?
A:   Through breads and grains, beta glucan has been part of the human diet for      thousands of years. Beta Glucan is obtained from extracted food-grade Baker's      yeast, which is permitted for use in food by the U.S. Food and Drug      Administration (21CFR170.30).

Q: How often do I need to take Beta Glucan?
A:  The body has millions of white blood cells that are constantly being renewed so      take Beta Glucan daily for maximum benefit.

Q: What about other immunity supplements?
A:   Some immune system enhancers, such as mannoproteins and endotoxins, can      over-stimulate the immune system, triggering an inflammatory response.

Q: Is 'Micronized' Beta Glucan Better?
A:  There is a large body body of preclinical animal research demonstrating the     effectiveness of Whole Glucan Particle beta glucan in cancer, radiation and     several infectious disease models. There are no controlled and published studies     demonstrating the effectiveness of submicron particles in a disease model system.     Don't be fooled by marketing gimmicks about "micronized" beta glucan.

Q: What is the optimal dosage?
A: Researchers have established a recommended human dosage of approximately 2     milligrams of beta glucan daily per kilogram of body weight. This dosage of     particulate yeast beta glucan is based on results of a human biomarker clinical     study and is consistent with the effective dose in more than one dozen animal     studies.

Q: Is yeast superior to other beta glucan sources?
A: Not all beta glucans are equal. Substantial research demonstrates that yeast beta     glucan has far superior immune-enhancing benefits when compared with oat and     barley beta glucans. The disparity is attributed to differences in the glucans'     molecular structure and forms that result in lower concentrations of beta 1,3     glucan, the bioactive component, in cereal products.

Q: How important is beta glucan purity?
A:The difference may have significant health consequences. As with many foods, a     small portion of the population should avoid Baker's yeast. Extensive research has     demonstrated that a component of the yeast cell called "mannan" may trigger an     allergic reaction or inflammatory bowel flare in individuals with yeast allergies,     Inflammatory Bowel Disease or Crohn's Disease. Unfortunately, some beta glucan     dietary supplements manufacturers fail to adequately separate the beta glucan     from the mannan and mannoproteins and other components of the yeast cell.

Q: How can I be sure of my beta glucan's purity?
A: Look for "Beta Glucan" on the label. In independent laboratory testing, only     Immune Body Beta Glucan exceeded its label claim. Some products tested     contained less than 25% of the beta glucan claimed on their label. The remaining
ingredients included mannan, fats and ash.
